ABOUT US
ZOMA Studios is a full service independent animation studio and production company founded by Uzo Ngwu. ZOMA is committed to championing underrepresented voices and centering culturally specific storytelling in all of our projects. Based online, ZOMA works with artists from all over the world. We’re currently working on our debut project, Mmanwu, an animated short film set in modern day Nigeria.
ZOMA is taken from the Igbo name UZOMA, which translates to "a good path (in life)" or "a beautiful way." At ZOMA, we are committed to forging our own path and creating our own opportunities for culturally specific storytelling.
Our team is composed of artists and musicians with skill sets ranging from character and prop design to songwriting and 3D modeling. Our team has worked for companies such as Dreamworks TV, Pixar, Titmouse, Bento Box Entertainment, BUCK and more!
Founder Uzo Ngwu is a Nigerian-American multidisciplinary artist with a passion for representation in art and media. ZOMA Studios was born from the desire to see more projects in the mainstream animation landscape that center underrepresented narratives, particularly from Black and African perspectives. Rather than wait for permission, Uzo is giving herself permission to tell the stories she’s always wanted to see. Mmanwu will be the first of many original projects.
